Magnitude 5 quake jolts Davao Oriental

A magnitude 5 earthquake jolted Davao Oriental on Monday, with intensities reported in eight areas, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The event was recorded at 10:32 am, and its epicenter was located offshore, about 61 kilometers northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental.
Its origin was tectonic, and its depth of focus was 7 kilometers.
Reported intensities were recorded in eight areas, with the highest, Intensity IV, felt in Baganga, Davao Oriental; Intensity III in Cateel, Davao Oriental; and Intensity II in Boston, Manay, and Tarragona, Davao Oriental.
Intensity I was recorded in Compostela, Davao de Oro, and Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, while instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.
PHIVOLCS said aftershocks are expected following the quake, while no damage is expected.— Edg Adrian A. Eva
