VICE-PRESIDENT Sara Duterte-Carpio remained the leading choice for President in the 2028 elections despite her impeachment trial, while Senator Christopher “Bong” T. Go emerged as the preferred vice-presidential candidate, according to a Pulse Asia Research survey released on Wednesday.
The nationwide survey, conducted from June 28 to July 3 and July 6, showed 49% of respondents would vote for Ms. Duterte if the presidential election were held during the survey period. Naga City Mayor and former Vice-President Maria Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo ranked second with 26%, followed by Senator Rafael “Raffy” T. Tulfo with 14%.
Ms. Duterte posted her strongest support in Mindanao at 87% and the Visayas at 53%. She led Ms. Robredo by one percentage point in Metro Manila, 39% to 38%, while both received 31% in the rest of Luzon.
“In a one-on-one presidential race, the Vice-President would have an edge over Naga City Mayor Robredo (52% versus 39%) if the May 2028 elections took place during the survey period,” Pulse Asia said.
The poll covered political developments including the start of Ms. Duterte’s impeachment trial, the election of Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian as Senate president and the World Bank’s reclassification of the Philippines as an upper-middle income economy.
For Vice-President, Mr. Go led with 27%, followed by Senator Robinhood Ferdinand “Robin” C. Padilla with 21%. Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” A. Aquino IV and former Senator Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares each received 14%.
The survey of 2,400 adults had a ±2% margin of error at the 95% confidence level. — Erika Mae P. Sinaking
